Carousel Creamery: A carnival of 100+ ice cream flavors

Carousel Creamery is part of Lyz on Top of the World’s special segment—featuring stores with stories. The goal is for visitors, travelers, and passersby to see that these places have a heart and soul (and some of them have a rich history) and are more than just establishments with things to sell.

When Willy Wonka opens the doors to his Chocolate Factory and invites children in for the first time, it doesn’t take much to imagine the look on their faces. Bright eyes taking on the colorful sights. Hands reach out to grab sweet treats hanging low on the branches of candy trees. Wide smiles at the thought of such a delicious treat.

Carouel Creamery’s little store on Missouri Street in Greenhills may not have the gigantic machines Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory has (or the mysterious Oompa-Loompas), but the effect—the excitement, the wonder, the delight—is still the same.

With over a hundred flavors on display, walking into the store feels like stepping into an enchanted place. Rows upon rows and tubs upon tubs beckon. The flavors are a medley of well-known favorites (NY Cheesecake, Speculoos, Avocashew), puns that make the ice cream seem more tantalizing (Matcha Bean Up To?, Mueslix of the Night, Wondrous Woman), and some never-heard-of-before flavors that stoke the curiosity—and the appetite. Personally, I love Baileys, Rum & Raisin, and Cold Brew Coffee, although I try to taste a new flavor every time I visit.

How does Carousel Creamery come up with unique flavors?

Carousel Creamery does not just toss in candy bars into ice cream and call it a day. It experiments with the palate, zeroing in on that intersection between unique profiles and what appeals to people’s tastes, often finding a new way to present familiar flavors. Ever wondered what beer and chicharon (deep-fried pork skin) would taste like in an ice cream? It’s exactly this combination that put Carousel Creamery on the map. Love a bit of spirit in your cone of cold goodness? They’ve got flavors infused with Johnnie Walker, rum, and more. They also have vegan, dairy-free, and sugar-free options.

Of course, not every flavor becomes wildly popular. Some are hit-and-miss and end up in a graveyard of cones. But that’s the fun part of experimenting with ice cream. Sometimes, you never know where the magic will take you for a spin in the world of ice cream.

Owner Lincoln Cheong draws inspiration from his travels and various occasions and celebrations. And in creating the ice cream, they only use high-quality, choice ingredients. You can taste it—delicious, creamy goodness with every bite. And with 100+ flavors, there’s definitely something for everyone in Carousel Creamery. You’ll find ice cream that the younger generation with a sweeter tooth enjoys and the more classic flavors that the older ones tend to gravitate towards.

How to enjoy your ice cream at Carousel Creamery

If you’re torn between two flavors and feeling a little full, you can ask for a tiny taste of either to help you decide. Or you can just order both—after all, we all know that we have a separate stomach for desserts.

Aside from selling ice cream by the scoop, Carousel Creamery’s menu features an assortment of ways to enjoy the ice cream, including Apple Pie à la Mode, Chocolate Insanity (for all the chocolate lovers out there), in a banana split, or ice cream sandwich. And for people like me who love having a bit of salty with sweet, they have fries, hot dogs, nachos, onion rings, calamares, and more.

Carousel Creamery also serves halo-halo!
Some savory goodness that pairs well with the sweet

You know Willy Wonka’s magic that keeps kids coming back for more candy? I swear there’s a bit of it residing in the tubs of ice cream in the ice cream parlor—something that makes you want to come back for more. After all, there are over a hundred flavors of ice cream at Carousel Creamery. Life’s too short not to try them all.
